The Wolf and the Lion

After her grandfather’s death, twenty-year-old Alma (Molly Kunz) decides to return to the place where she grew up: a small island deep in the heart of the Canadian forests. No sooner has she settled in than she finds herself saving the lives of a wolf cub and a lion cub in an unusual way. From then on inseparable, the two unlikely furry friends grow up together with Alma, far from civilization. Until one day a ranger shows up at the cabin and snatches the two animals from Alma’s care. An exciting search across Canada begins... Visually stunning landscapes and plenty of emotion: “The Wolf and the Lion” is a fairy-tale-like nature adventure that treats its animal protagonists with warmth and compassion. The story of friendship, freedom, and the fragile relationship between humans and animals unfolds its charm through impressive nature footage. In terms of content, it remains somewhat oversimplified with its clear moral messages—but as a family-friendly feel-good film, this animal-human friendship works exceptionally well. "As in his previous film *Mia and the White Lion*, director Gilles de Maistre also shot this film with real animals. Filming began with four wolf cubs and two lion cubs—the film crew observed the growing animals for over 15 months; in the end, the snow wolf Paddington and the lion Walter proved the easiest to film with. The animal scenes, often featuring lead actress Molly Kunz, are therefore a joy to watch and feel very natural—there’s no computer-generated fur here; everything is real.” (KinderFilmWelt)
