In 1888 France, Félicie and Victor live in an orphanage in Brittany and dream of Paris. Félicie is determined to become a dancer, Victor a great inventor. One night they run away and jump on a train to Paris. In the city of countless possibilities, their wishes will finally come true. This animated film tells an exuberant and colourful, often dramatic, but above all cheerful and amusing, classic story of upward mobility, in which Félicie takes centre stage. The penniless outsider accepts all setbacks and resistance for her big dream and bravely defends herself against the intrigues of a begrudging Parisian lady who wants to push through her own daughter's success. But Félicie succeeds in several respects in the ‘Grand Jeté’, the great (ballet) leap in which body and spirit, energy and passion must be in harmony. This is also a beautiful symbol: dancing on tiptoe may seem light as a feather, but the weight always leaves its mark.
