Directors Michele Gentile and Marcus Vetter follow Luis Moreno Ocampo six years after his appointment as chief prosecutor of the ICC. They travel with him to Libya as arrest warrants are issued for Muammar Gaddafi and his son Saif Al Islam; they attend the prosecutor's negotiations with a Palestinian delegation. At issue is whether the court can recognize Palestine as a state - a prerequisite for indicting Israel and Hamas for war crimes in the Gaza war. And they are following the International Court of Justice's first case against former Congolese militia leader Thomas Lubanga Dyilo, who abused child soldiers for his wars. In the genre of a judicial thriller, this film takes place behind normally closed doors. A highly complex legal process with language incomprehensible to a layman is given a face in the course of the film. And when Hollywood star Angelina Jolie and Ben Ferenzc, one of the prosecutors of the Nuremberg trials, come to The Hague for the decisive final hearing in the case of Thomas Dyilo Lubanga, everyone realizes the importance and responsibility of this young world court: the International Court of Justice in The Hague is the continuation of what began in Nuremberg 65 years ago.
